Keep your Christmas loot safe with these tips from Crime Stoppers

Crime Stoppers has some tips for how to avoid being a target for robberies and stay safe this holiday season.

Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers posted some advice on X (formerly known as Twitter) for keeping homes and vehicles safe from thieves.

“You're basking in the afterglow of presents and turkey, but don't let your guard down! Protect your new loot by following these tips,” Crime Stoppers said.

It said to avoid leaving empty boxes outside as advertisements for the pricey presents in your home. Don’t leave expensive gifts visible under the tree. Take photos and put identifying marks on gifts so they can be traced back to you.

Crime Stoppers recommends people avoid leaving gifts in vehicles. Avoid porch pirates by having gifts delivered at work or have a neighbour pick them up.

For those people who are out of town for the holidays using light timers, and having friends and neighbours make it seem like you are home by clearing walkways and mail is a good way to prevent people from knowing there is nobody home.
