Kelowna locals won’t have to drive as far to pet kangaroos this year.

The Kangaroo Creek Farm will open its doors at its new location in Kelowna March 14, depending on the weather.

This will be its first season it will open at 5932 Old Vernon Road. In May 2019, the Central Okanagan Regional District approved of a temporary permit to allow the farm to operate at the 10-acre property.

Formerly located in Lake Country’s downtown core, Lake Country Mayor James Baker said he’s sad to see the kangaroo farm has moved outside of the district.

“We’re sorry to see it go and we just couldn’t accommodate them for parking which is a shame because I thought it was great for the community,” he said.

Baker said the petting farm was a driving force that brought many tourists and locals to Lake Country's downtown.

While it will definitely impact Lake Country’s tourism sector, “we certainly do wish them well,” Baker said.

This month, the farm welcomed a new joey to its trove of animals. The petting farm is home to capybaras, sugar gliders, parrots, kangaroos, peacocks and more.
