KAMLOOPS - Let’s Ta!k Phase 2 of the KAMPLAN Review and Update is here! KAMPLAN: the Official Community Plan (OCP) is the guiding document for planning, future growth, and land use management within the jurisdiction of the City.

In Let’s Ta!k Phase 1, residents were asked to comment on their long term vision for Kamloops and what they value most.  These ideas have been incorporated into a draft Community Vision and Community Values.

In Phase 2, it’s now time to look at two potential land use scenarios to accommodate population growth in Kamloops over the next 20 years. The City is also seeking feedback on draft goals and policy directions under KAMPLAN’s 10 topic areas: Land Use and Development; Environment; Infrastructure; Transportation; Housing; Parks, Recreation, and Open Space; Economic Development; Arts and Culture; Community Well-Being; and Health and Safety.

Public engagement activities for Phase 2 begin next week and continue throughout June. Participate with a group in an OCPizza Night or attend one of our Roadshow events.

OCPizza Nights
OCPizza Nights are self-facilitated “meetings-in-a-box.” Participating groups receive training, materials and free pizza to conduct their own public consultation session on (a) the two draft land use scenarios, and (b) the draft goals and policy directions under the OCP topic area of their choice, and send the results back to the City.

Who are OCPizza Nights appropriate for?
Neighbourhood associations, community-based organizations, service clubs, community committees, task forces, policy councils, advisory boards, and more.

When can we hold our OCPizza Night?
Interested groups first need to send a member to attend one of the following Facilitator Training Sessions:

May 30 or May 31
5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
105 Seymour St., Development and Engineering Services Boardroom
RSVP to kamplan@kamloops.ca to register

Once a member of the group has attended the session and received the OCPizza Box with all materials for the OCPizza Night, groups can hold their meeting at any point prior to June 27. All results must be submitted to the City by June 27 in order to be used as input into the KAMPLAN Review and Update.

KAMPLAN Roadshows
The City will be hosting three KAMPLAN Roadshow events as part of Phase 2 of the KAMPLAN Review and Update process. These events will feature:
Interactive displays and information booths on the land use scenarios and 10 OCP topic areas;
City staff on hand to chat with and discuss the process;
Art created by South Kamloops Secondary School students, inspired by the 10 OCP topic areas and their vision for the future of Kamloops; and
Live music by Johnson Sandwich at the Northills and Aberdeen Mall events.

When and where will these events take place?
Saturday, June 4, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Northills Mall (by Independent Grocer entrance)
Saturday, June 11, 8 a.m. to noon, Farmers’ Market
Saturday, June 18, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Aberdeen Mall (Centre Court)
