A Kamloops singer who made it into the top 20 on American Idol earlier this year is performing locally next week.

Cameron Whitcomb is going to sing for his fans and talk about his journey on the TV competition at Aberdeen Mall.

“Very excited to see you guys there and meet everyone,” he said in a Facebook post. “Save this to your calendar and drop a comment if you’ll be there.”

Whitcomb is a motorcycle mechanic and pipeline worker who initially won a golden ticket to Hollywood after performing Rock, Salt and Nails by Waylon Jennings in March.

He made it into the top 20 in the singing competition with two Creedence Clearwater Revival songs and a Thrasher song, but was eliminated after performing The SteelDrivers’ If It Hadn’t Been For Love.

The 18-year-old singer is known for his animated and bouncy performances, and for doing backflips.

The free event takes place in Centre Court at the Aberdeen Mall at 6 p.m. Friday, July 15.
