KAMLOOPS - Kamloops residents may be eligible to receive a rebate for replacing their old, smoky wood stoves with cleaner technology.
Participants can receive up to $1,100 in rebates for upgrading their old, uncertified wood-burning appliance with a new, certified, low-emission heating option, according to a City of Kamloops media release says. A maximum of 35 rebates will be issued in 2019, and they will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. One rebate is available per household.
The program is a part of the city's plan to minimize harmful emissions from wood-burning appliances.
Using dry, seasoned wood in an EPA-certified stove produces up to 70 per cent fewer emissions compared to an uncertified wood stove, the city says. Wood pellet, natural gas, and electric options emit fewer particulates than certified stoves.
