KELOWNA - Cocaine, cash and two vehicles were seized as the result of an ALERT drug trafficking investigation in Edmonton that involved three B.C. men.

ALERT is Edmonton’s organized crime and gang team arrested three people on Aug. 20, with the assistance of Edmonton Police Service, according to a media release. A home was searched in the city's Garneau neighbourhood, along with a storage facility in the Lewis Farms Industrial area.

As a result of the search warrants, ALERT seized:

  • 4.8 kilograms of cocaine;
  • $16,380 cash;
  • two prohibited handgun magazines; and
  • two BMW vehicles.

ALERT’s investigation began in July 2019 in response to drug trafficking concerns. The accused have ties to British Columbia and have previously been charged for similar offences in Prince George.

Three people were arrested, and all were jointly charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and possession of a prohibited device. Those men were Matthew Bailey, a 28-year-old man from Kelowna; Morgan De La Ronde, a 22-year-old man from Kelowna; and Devon Burtch, a 26-year-old woman from Kamloops.

Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community can call local police, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is always anonymous.

ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta Government and is a compilation of the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources committed to tackling serious and organized crime.
