Kamloops woman assaulted by stranger in her own home

FILE PHOTO

A stranger assaulted a Kamloops woman in her own home last night before fleeing with a bag of potatoes.

The victim heard noises in the house and found a stranger in her kitchen when she went to investigate, around 10 p.m. yesterday, Sept. 28, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

“When the homeowner told the woman to leave and that she was calling police, the suspect allegedly hit her with an object, then attempted to assault her with a knife," Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. "The homeowner was eventually able to get the woman out but not before the suspect grabbed a bag of potatoes from the kitchen.”

Kamloops RCMP officers, including a police dog unit, arrived at the home on the 1900 block of Westsyde Road around 10:10 p.m.

Police didn't find the suspect.

The assailant is described as an Indigenous female, about 5'5" tall with a thin build, according to police. She was wearing glasses, a black coat and white jeans at the time.

Police are looking for the suspect, witnesses and video footage of the incident. A forensic team also investigated the scene earlier today, according to Kamloops RCMP.
