KAMLOOPS - It's Christmas, the season for thieves to target shoppers, and the City of Kamloops along with crime prevention volunteers are trying to help you protect yourself this holiday season.
The City says in a news release that volunteers kicked off the eighth Safe for the Season program yesterday, Nov. 14, at Northills Mall.
Volunteers are focusing on parking lots near shopping centres and reminding shoppers to secure their purchases and any other valuables out of sight, the release says.
While volunteers patrol parking areas and speak with shoppers, tip cards that have vehicle crime prevention information will be left on windshields. Crime Prevention Coordinator Sandro Piroddi says in the release that it's important for people to ensure their vehicles aren't targets.
"Ultimately, the best practice is to take your parcels out of your vehicle at the earliest opportunity. Thieves are shopping too, so don’t make your vehicle a target," says Piroddi. "Our Crime Prevention volunteers want you to practise the tips on the cards that are being handed out and to have a safe and secure holiday season. We also want to extend a sincere thank you to our amazing volunteer team, whose dedication to this program makes it a success year after year."
