You heard of getting bang for your buck, but this week Kamloops residents can get a bang with their donation to the food bank.

Proud West Fireworks has popped up in Kamloops just in time for Halloween, and they're running a food drive with a unique reward.

Owner-operator Jean-Luc Williams says anyone who donates a minimum of five pounds of non-perishable food will get free fireworks, and the food goes to the Kamloops Food Bank.

Of course, this only applies to those aged 21 and up.

All those eligible will also get a free permit from the store with their fireworks, Williams said.

The City of Kamloops allows the discharge of fireworks only between Oct. 24 and Nov.1. and between Dec. 25 and Jan.1, according to the city's fireworks bylaw. It's illegal to set off fireworks unless an application is filed with the Kamloops Fire Department. No one is allowed to discharge them on public roads, and everyone must have permission. to discharge the fireworks by the property owner, public or private.

Breaking any one of these rules will result in a $250 fine for each infringement.

Proud West Firework is located at 275 Tranquille Rd.

The food drive runs until Oct. 31 at midnight.
