KAMLOOPS - Ben James works day in, day out, making sure the streets of downtown Kamloops are pristine.

Most people who frequent downtown have seen him before, and it stumps some that he does the work for free.

A recent post on social media brought attention to James’ hard work, and had people rallying to get him a job with the city.

Yesterday, he got a certificate from the city recognizing his efforts. Coun. Kathy Sinclair met with James yesterday to give him the award. Although he hasn’t landed a job yet, being acknowledged for his work brought a smile to his face.

A GoFundMe was started about six months ago to support James and the work he does. In 2014, he made national headlines for running in the Kamloop's mayoral race - because he was bored.

James is a fixture in the Kamloops community, and residents will likely continue to rally with him until he gets a paid position.
