There was a standoff in Kamloops between RCMP officers and a man with a knife earlier today.
Police were looking for the knife-wielding man after receiving a report that he allegedly tried, and failed, to steal a vehicle on the 400 block of Tranquille, according to an RCMP press release. Officers rushed to the scene after the call came in around 11 a.m.
“Police officers strategically responded to the area and recognized a man matching the description provided, visibly armed with a knife,” Insp. Jeff Pelley of Kamloops RCMP said in the release.
“Recognizing the high-risk situation, a brief standoff occurred before a conductive energy device was effectively deployed, quickly immobilizing the suspect and allowing officers to safely take him into custody without injury to the suspect, or further harm to others.”
The vehicle owner received minor treatment for injuries sustained during his encounter with the knife-wielding man.
The suspect is being held in custody until he appears in court.
