A Kamloops retail employee was assaulted with bear spray while trying to prevent a theft by a man in a wig earlier this week.

RCMP say the man shopped around the store in the 500 block of Notre Dame Drive at around 6:36 p.m., Jan. 5, then attempted to leave with unpaid merchandise.

The employee tried to stop the man from leaving with the merchandise, but was allegedly assaulted with bear spray, according to an RCMP media release.

He then fled through the back of the store to a parking lot on Summit Drive where he drove away in a grey SUV.

RCMP describe the suspect as a Caucasian man between 20 and 30 years old. He was wearing a blond wig, a face mask, a white T-shirt over a black long-sleeved shirt and camo pants.

If you have any information related to this or recognize the suspect, the RCMP can be contacted at 250-828-3000.
