Kamloops RCMP seek help to identify hammer-wielding shoplifting suspect

Kamloops RCMP are asking for the public's help to identify a shoplifting suspect who allegedly threatened an employee with a hammer.

A store employee was threatened by a shoplifter with a hammer on Saturday and Kamloops RCMP are now trying to identify the suspect.

On Feb. 13, a woman attempted to steal hundreds of dollars of merchandise from a store on the 1000 block of Hillside Drive, according to an RCMP press release.

"An employee reported he was chased through a store by a woman with a hammer after she was confronted while attempting to steal hundreds of dollars of merchandise," media relations officer Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

Police responded to the incident on Saturday around 8:20 p.m. They patrolled the area and viewed surveillance footage, but have not yet identified the suspect.

RCMP are asking the public for help to identify her. She is described as Caucasian, around 25 to 30 years-old, with red hair. At the time of the incident she was wearing a black coat, pants and shoes, with a pink and blue backpack.
