The driver who drove through Kamloops in a badly damaged stolen vehicle has been arrested.

Kamloops RCMP said the woman was arrested in Chilliwack Friday and will appear before the courts today.

Just after 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, two plainclothes police officers approached a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Surrey. While the officers tried to arrest the female driver, she escaped by driving through parked cars and caused a significant amount of damage. The suspect damaged the vehicle she was driving, and as she drove through the city, multiple witnesses reported her to police.

Officers caught up with the vehicle at an unannounced time but found it had been abandoned in the Canadian Tire parking lot. The suspect fled on foot and officers were not able to find her. This is the second stolen vehicle incident RCMP have dealt with today.

"This really underscores the danger that these events represent," said Staff Sgt. Mat. Van Laer from the Kamloops RCMP. “We can never predict how these criminals will react, and we are very thankful that no one from the public was hurt today."
