Kamloops RCMP responds to more than 400 weekend calls

Kamloops RCMP responded to over 400 calls for service this weekend, including multiple drunk drivers and a firearm seizure.

Around 3:20 p.m., on Saturday, July 24, police were called to a hotel on the 1200 block of Rogers Way to a man who was sleeping with a long gun beside him, according to a news release from Kamloops RCMP.

RCMP evacuated the entire third floor of the hotel before entering the room and seizing the firearm.

A man from Merritt was arrested and released with a court date, but the investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident, police responded found two drunk drivers on Sunday night. Around 8:20 p.m., July 25, an impaired driver was report to police as having left a home on Robson Drive.

After the initial call, police were told the driver returned to the home and assaulted someone with a bottle, according to the release.

She was later found by police and blew above the legal blood-alcohol limit in a breath test.

The woman was given a 90-day driving suspension, her vehicle is impounded for 30 days and a court date is pending in relation to the assault, according to RCMP.

On that same night, around 7 p.m., police responded to a traffic accident at Ord Road and 8 Avenue, where a truck crashed into a traffic light.

The driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

He was handed a ticket for driving without due care and attention, then also received a 90-day driving suspension and 30-day vehicle impound after exceeding .08 blood-alcohol content in a breath test.

Another vehicle was also damaged in the crash.

From 12 a.m., July 23 to 9 a.m., July 26, police responded to 454 calls, according to a news release from Kamloops RCMP.
