Kamloops RCMP respond to Monday morning bike robbery on Ord Road

A "large police presence" on Ord Road was prompted this morning when a man was robbed of his bike by a suspect appearing to be carrying a firearm.

Residents in Brocklehurst might have noticed a large police presence early this morning when Kamloops RCMP responded to an armed robbery.

Kamloops RCMP have three people in custody after one had allegedly robbed a man of his bike on Ord Road. He appeared to be carrying a firearm at the time.

Officers arrived on the scene around 7:15 a.m. today, Feb. 8, after the robbery was reported.

"The suspect’s vehicle was located nearby and several people were arrested," media relations officer Const. Crystal Evelyn said. "An airsoft pistol and a quantity of drugs were seized by police during the investigation."

Kamloops RCMP said the victim and suspect are known to each other, and there is no risk to public safety.

Three suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.

While this bike theft incident appears to be isolated, bike owners who would like to take extra precautions against theft can register their bikes with 529 Garage. The website is dedicated to connecting bike owners with local law enforcement to track down and deter theft.

There are currently six bikes reported stolen in Kamloops on 529 Garage, including one stolen from District Bicycle Company in Valleyview.

Any witnesses to the robbery on Ord Road are asked to contact the RCMP at 250-828-3000.
