KAMLOOPS – Police are asking for the public’s help in finding out the actions and location of the victim who died in a hit and run on Highway 5 in January.

On Jan. 7, at 9 p.m. Kamloops RCMP responded to a hit and run fatality on the Coquihalla Highway near the Trans-Canada interchange.

The victim was 21-year-old Morisho Kavimba, Kamloops RCMP Sgt. Lorne Wood says in a news release. Kavimba was believed to have been in Kamloops for two or three days before being struck, police say.

RCMP are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen Kavimba between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Jan. 7. He was last seen at Aberdeen Mall at 7:45 p.m.

Police would like to speak with anyone who gave him a ride to the mall or if anyone saw Kavimba travelling to the highway or on the highway in any direction.

“It is believed that Kavimba may have been hitchhiking when he was struck by a vehicle.  Because he was wearing dark clothes and standing on the highway were there was no illumination, the driver of the vehicle that struck him may not have known they hit him or thought they struck something other than a person,” Wood says.

If you have any information regarding Kavimba and his actions on Jan. 7 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., or if you have any knowledge of the hit and run, call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800-222-8477.
