KAMLOOPS - Kamloops RCMP nabbed four potential thieves this past weekend after expanding their bait program by including bicycles and packages, along with the usual vehicles.

The items are scattered around the city in hopes that criminals are captured before they can commit theft against civilian, according to an RCMP media release.

Police say the thieves are lured in by the bait, unaware of the GPS tracker hidden within. RCMP are able to determine the location, speed and direction of the item, and then track down the would-be thief.

A 55-year-old male, a 28-year-old male, a 23-year-old female and a 22-year-old female were all arrested over Victoria Day long weekend after trying to steal bait items in separate incidents.

RCMP say the project is an ongoing initiative by the local Crime Reduction Unit with the hope of combatting the amount of theft in the city.
