KAMLOOPS - Police have a suspect in custody — and are on the look out for a second — after a vehicle took off down a one-way street in an effort to avoid a Counter Attack check stop in Kamloops last night.

RCMP say at around 8:32 p.m. yesterday, Dec. 9, traffic services members working a Counter Attack roadblock on Seymour Street spotted a car turn around at the entrance to the B.C. Lotteries building.

The driver took off “at a high rate of speed” the wrong way down a dead-end one-way street, police say. Two men jumped out of the vehicle and ran.

Officers surrounded the area, and with the help of a passing motorist and a police dog, caught one of the two men nearby.

A loaded 44-calibre revolver and a knife were found in the front of the car.

The second suspect got away, RCMP say. He was wearing blue pants, a grey hoody under a black jacket, and was possibly wearing a black ball cap. He was carrying a black backpack.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
