KAMLOOPS - A suspected Kamloops car thief is in custody after police say they stole a bait car on the weekend.

RCMP say the bait car was activated at around 4 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 in Kamloops.

"Police officers quickly attended the area where the vehicle had been driven and the suspect was arrested without incident," Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a media release.

Shelkie says the suspect has been released from custody and will appear in court facing charges of theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property.

She warns would-be thieves bait cars are everywhere and if you steal one you will go to jail.
