Two people were arrested in Kamloops last night after driving the wrong way down Columbia Street with a loaded firearm in the front seat.

According to an RCMP media release, an officer attempted to pull the couple over in a black Mercedes on Columbia Street at around 10:20 p.m. yesterday, Feb. 15, but they avoided stopping until finally turning into a 'Police Only' parking lot.

Once in the parking lot, officers blocked the car and commanded the man and woman to get out.

A stolen, loaded shotgun and ammunition were seized from the vehicle, and the pair were arrested. They were later found to be wanted on previous outstanding warrants, RCMP said.

Napoleon James Tallthunderboy Ross, 32, was charged with failing to stop a motor vehicle while being pursued and dangerous driving.

Lanaesha Sha'lynn Paul-Paquette, 23, and Ross are both charged for transporting the firearm against the Firearms Act and for occupying a vehicle knowing there was a firearm or ammunition in the vehicle.

They were to appear in court this afternoon, RCMP said.
