KAMLOOPS — RCMP have arrested a suspect after an armed robbery in downtown Kamloops last month.
Mikael Wayne Stewart, 21, has been charged with robbery and using a stolen credit card after an incident in April, according to an RCMP media release.
At around 3:15 a.m. on April 19, a man was walking alone near St. Paul Street and 1 Avenue when two males approached him, brandishing a knife and demanded his wallet and cellphone.
Police say the victim handed over the his items and within 40 minutes of the robbery, a credit card inside the man’s wallet was used to withdrew $800 from ATM machines. Surivellance video showed a suspect using the card at an ATM machine and a few days later the suspect was identified but not located.
Stewart, who is previously known to police, was arrested on May 6. The other suspect has not been identified.
"At this time, there is no indication that this suspect is related to any other robbery that has occurred in Kamloops over the past few months," Kamloops RCMP media liaison Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in the release.
Anyone with information on the second robbery suspect is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
