A Kamloops psychiatrist has been reprimanded after breaking the rules around intimate relationships with patients.

According to a decision released by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Charles James Marke reached out to a female patient one month after he stopped treating her. He asked her to come over to his house and they sat on the couch talking before he kissed and hugged her.

The Inquiry Committee from the College of Physicians and Surgeons states that there was a power balance in the incident.

It wasn't made clear in the report, but it appears Marke is no longer registered with the college.

Marke agreed to a reprimand and certain undertakings if he wants to resume his career in the province.

If Marke wants to reapply for a license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons, he must complete a multi-disciplinary assessment program.

If Marke then wants to practice in B.C. again, he will have to partake in medical education and professional development, he must have no engagement in personal relationships with patients or former patients and must comply with any monitoring set out by the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
