KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Pro Life Society is expects to rent the Paramount Theatre to screen the controversial anti-abortion movie Unplanned in September.
Dusan Magdolen, Executive Director of the Kamloops Film Society, which took over ownership of operations of the theatre in April, says a local group has reached out to the theatre to look into renting out the theatre.
"The Kamloops Film Society will not be programming this film," Magdolen says in a emailed statement. "There is an external group that is looking to rent the theatre so they can show the film. However nothing is confirmed yet."
Magdolen says the group is looking to book three days to showcase the film Unplanned. The film tells the story of a Planned Parenthood clinic director in Texas who becomes an anti-abortion speaker.
Salmar Theatres in Salmon Arm says it cancelled a planned five-day screening of the film after staff allegedly received threats.
Kathy Dahl of the Pro Life Society says they hope to have a five-day screening of the film in September at the Paramount Theatre.
Details of the movie screening in Kamloops will be comfirmed by the end of July, Magdolen says.
