It’s not often that we celebrate birthdays of local police officers, but this one is paws-itively special.

Fargo is a police dog with the Kamloops RCMP and today is his seventh birthday. He has been with his handler Cpl. Steve Prior and served in Newfoundland, Alberta and B.C. He was born at the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, AB.

Fargo spends his days sniffing out drugs and tracking criminals and also assists the Southeast District Emergency Response Team and assists on high-risk calls.

His handler Cpl. Prior says that he and his canine companion will celebrate tonight.

“We are planning a steak dinner to celebrate Fargo’s birthday, but no alcohol… we’re both on call. Later, he will chill with the family,” Cpl. Prior says in a media release.
