KAMLOOPS - If you want to celebrate 2018 with an icy dunk in the South Thompson River, the annual Polar Bear Swim is happening on New Year's Day.

Linda Gayfer helps organize the annual Polar Bear Swim in Kamloops and says the event is set to take place at 12 p.m. on Jan. 1 at Riverside Park near the flood markers.

Gayfer encourages people to take the icy plunge in costume but dressing up is not required.

According to the Facebook group, taking a "refreshing" dip in the river is free, however, a non-perishable item for the Food Bank is welcome.

You can check out some photos from previous years here to get some costume ideas.
