KAMLOOPS - After a successful inaugural festival, the Hydra Performing Arts Festival is coming back to Kamloops for its second year.

The new performing arts festival is a partnership with the Chimera Theatre and the Actors Workshop Theatre.

Earlier this year, the Chimera Theatre presented the inaugural festival with 12 different acts over two weekends in May.

Andrew G. Cooper is the artistic managing director of Chimera Theatre and says the festival was originally started to give artists in the city a chance to express creativity through a platform that wasn’t already available to them.

The festival is currently calling for submissions for the 2019 Hydra Performing Arts Festival until Nov. 30. Some of the performances from the first festival included dance, music, circus arts, cabaret, puppetry, spoken word and storytelling.

Next year's festival will run from May 23 to June 1.
