Kamloops, Okanagan under a heat warning

A heat warning has been issued for Kamloops and the Okanagan.

Environment Canada says daytime temperatures near 35 Celsius will be combined with overnight lows near 18 C.

The heatwave is expected to last through until Sunday.

"Temperatures are forecast to gradually moderate toward more seasonal values early next week," Environment Canada says.

The weather office warns that extreme heat affects everyone.

"Environment Canada and local medical health officers expect an increase in health and safety risks from heat and are advising the public to take precautions."

It advises people to drink plenty of water even before they feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

"Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle."
