A Kamloops nurse was been suspended for three months for making multiple mistakes on medical records and falsifying documentation.

According to a Feb. 11 B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives decision, Kamloops licenced practical nurse Wanda-Lee Lewis failed to create accurate patient medical records on multiple occasions and falsifying documentation between May 2019 and November 2021.

"Further, Ms. Lewis failed to communicate in a timely manner, or at all, with a resident's family member after the resident had a serious fall that resulted in injury and a transfer to hospital, as required by facility policy," the decision read. "Lastly, Ms. Lewis inaccurately documented in a resident's medical records that she administered a medication, when she in fact did not."

The nursing regulator said she later attempted to create false documentation to hide the error.

Lewis signed a consent agreement admitting to her conduct.

The college suspended Lewis for three months and has prohibited her from being the sole nurse on duty, working night shifts, supervising nursing students or orientating new staff.

She will also have to complete ethics, documentation, medication administration, professional communication, conflict resolution and person-centred care.

Once she returns to work, Lewis will also have indirect supervision of the practice for six months.

The regulator said it's satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
