Freelance Kamloops model Alysha Sigsworth is creating eye-catching fashion photographs and sharing them on her Instagram. The makeup artist enjoys designing sets and costumes, and says her concepts for design typically appear in her mind all at once, down to the smallest detail.
“My inspiration for design usually comes from my surroundings,” Sigsworth said. “It comes from the information I have digested through window shopping, browsing online, artwork I’ve come across and outfits I’ve seen other people wearing. My mind naturally goes to this place where suddenly I visualize a concept and everything that goes into it: hair, makeup, outfit, poses, backdrops and accessories. The image becomes so clear.”
Sigsworth grew up in Kamloops. Several years ago she went to Vancouver to attend the Global Makeup program at Blanche MacDonald, returning after completion to live close to family. She says she has had a passion for fashion from a young age.

“I would be found flipping through Sears catalogues as well as fashion magazines, cutting out outfits and pasting together versions of my own,” Sigsworth recalls. “I appreciate how controversial fashion can be. My parents have always encouraged me to express myself and through that I found a creative outlet. For me, fashion represents freedom of expression. People are able to change what they wear based on their mood or how they want to be portrayed.”
Sigsworth is using some of her creative photos to build her modelling portfolio. She has been represented by modelling agencies in the past and is now ready to approach agencies in Vancouver while she continues to do freelance work locally.
“Modelling is empowering and liberating to me,” Sigsworth said. “I have struggled to find acceptance from others and myself throughout my life. Modelling has given me a sense of confidence I never thought possible. The industry has enabled me to take on many different personas. This is more than just a creative outlet to me, it’s a lifestyle. My advice to others would be to follow your dreams, avoid listening to judgements from others and do what ignites your soul.”
Sigsworth is recently working as a receptionist while she waits to hear back regarding school. She plans to attend BCIT’s online program for social media and digital marketing in the fall.
In the meantime, she has many more artistic concepts she wants to create. She says she encourages others to live in the moment and that confidence is more attractive than anything you can put on your body.
