A Kamloops man stopped at a local gas station to grab a newspaper and at the last minute decided to buy a scratch and win lottery tickets.

Turns out, it was a winner worth $500,000.

“When I pick my scratch and win tickets, I always pick the ticket in the middle,” Domenico Di Giacomo said in a BC Lottery Corporation media release. “I’ve been celebrating since last week.”

He bought the ticket at the Canco gas station in Kamloops.

The odds of winning the grand prize on the Jackpot Scratch & Win is one in 500,000, the lottery corporation said.

Di Giacomo said the win will make his retirement easier and he’s already ordered a new motorcycle.

The lottery corporation doesn’t say when he bought the winning ticket.
