Kamloops man who skipped sex assault sentencing back in custody

A Kamloops man who skipped his sentencing hearing for sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend is expected to hear the final decision next week now that he's back in custody.

Troy England, born in 1976, was convicted in November for breaking and entering to commit a sexual assault, along with uttering threats, but when it came time for him to be sentenced, he didn't show up.

At a March 1 sentencing hearing defence lawyer Dustin Gagnon explained that England had travelled to the Lower Mainland over night and planned to be back.

After waiting throughout the morning, Kamloops Supreme Court Justice Kathleen Ker issued a warrant for England's arrest.

He was out on bail while he awaited a sentence, but he was eventually arrested last month. This time England will show up to hear his sentencing from custody, rather than on his own accord.

According to Ker's written decision from Nov. 18, England broke into his ex-girlfriend's Clearwater home and sexually assaulted her. He then threatened to kill her if she told police.

He's scheduled to be sentenced in Kamloops Supreme Court next Tuesday, May 24.

He was found guilty of both breaking in to commit a sexual assault and uttering threats. He is now charged with another count for failing to appear in court.
