A Kamloops man killed in a single vehicle accident on the Coquihalla Highway, Jan. 6 has been identified as 44-year-old Stephen Kulinski.

Lower Mainland District RCMP reported that he was travelling in a 2006 Suzuki SUV with his 38-year-old wife heading southbound outside Hope, B.C. at the Falls Lake exit when the vehicle lost control.

The Fraser Valley Traffic Service responded to the scene at about 2:45 p.m. RCMP deemed icy road conditions as a factor in the crash that sent the vehicle into a snow bank, toppling a light standard and crushing the roof of their vehicle.

Kulinski was trapped inside the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene.

His wife was rescued from the vehicle by a firefighter, police officer and a paramedic, and taken to Fraser Canyon Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

B.C. Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate the man's death.
