Kamloops man charged after collision with RCMP cruiser

A 28-year-old man will be in court later this week after he collided with a police cruiser, then ran from the scene.

Kamloops RCMP first tried to pull him over around 10:30 p.m., Dec. 9, when an officer spotted a black SUV with plates from a different vehicle, according to a news release. Although the SUV's license plates didn't match the vehicle, neither were reported stolen, RCMP said.

The officer first saw him on the Halston Connector, but followed the vehicle to Schubert Drive.

With two officers on the street, each travelling a different direction, they tried to pull over the SUV "when it was safe to do so," according to the news release.

"The driver allegedly attempted to evade police and in doing so, collided with the northbound officer's vehicle, then swerved into a residential driveway before coming to a rest," the news release reads.

He was arrested as he tried to run from the scene.

“Thankfully, the officer involved in the collision was not injured and following a brief foot pursuit, caught Reeb and took him into custody,” Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of Kamloops RCMP said in the news release.

Colton Reeb, 28, is charged with flight from police and obstructing a peace officer. He was later released and is expected to appear in court on Thursday, Dec. 15.

Anyone who witnessed or has information related to this investigation can contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-43733.
