Kamloops man arrested with loaded handgun during traffic stop

Kamloops RCMP arrested a man after officers found a firearm during a traffic stop on Tuesday.

Tyler Dean Rear, 27, is facing a list of charges related to possessing a loaded, prohibited firearm. 

Police pulled a white SUV over because its tail lights were out near the Overlanders Bridge early in the morning on March 30.

During the traffic stop officers found a loaded Glock 42, according to a press release.

“A man was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing related to eight charges,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP said in the release. “He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance, scheduled for April 11.”

Rear is charged with careless use, storage, or transport of a Glock 42 pistol; carrying a concealed weapon; occupying a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited weapon inside, the Glock 42; possessing a prohibited weapon without a licence; possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm; possessing a firearm knowing that the serial number had been altered, and possessing a prohibited or restricted firearm while prohibited.
