Kamloops Long Blades skate strong in competition

Members of the Kamloops Long Blades posted strong finishes this weekend, racing in speed skating competitions in Abbotsford and Edmonton.

Four members of the Kamloops Long Blades skated at the Edmonton fall classic, attendance at which is one of the requirements to attend the season ending CanWest championship.

Leah Turner had a fantastic meet achieving 4 personal bests Leah also received a silver medal for the 800m race and a bronze medal for the 1,500m race for her age category. Teagan Lawhead had 3 personal bests, in the 400m, 800m, and 1,500m. Isaiah Jessie Uribe had 2 personal bests, and Cameron Thomas had 2 personal best, one of which was in the 1,500m where he knocked over 4.5 seconds off his previous best time.

Meanwhile, two young members of the Kamloops Long Blades attended their first meet outside of the Okanagan region at this weekend’s annual Fraser Valley Challenge held in Abbotsford, BC. Kayleigh Roberts (age 6) and Jared Roberts (age 7) skated strong in each of their races, achieving a combined eight out ten personal best times. In particular, Jared shaved a remarkable twelve seconds off his previous personal best time for the 400 m race.

The Kamloops Long Blades will be back on the road next weekend, travelling to Salmon Arm for the 4th Annual Ice Jam Interclub Speed Skating Competition as well as to Prince George for the Central Interior Challenge.
