Kamloops homicide victim was local high school student

An 18-year-old man found dead Saturday on Tk'emlups Reserve land was a student at Sa-Hali Secondary school, the school district has confirmed.

Kamloops RCMP confirmed the man was Jagraj Dhinsa. School principal Rachael Sdoutz sent her condolences to Dhinsa's family and friends of the grade 12 student on behalf of the school.

"In response to this upsetting news, the school, in consultation with the School District No. 73 support team, has implemented a plan that allows students an opportunity to talk about their thoughts and feelings with professional staff. To access these services, families may contact the school office, and a time will be arranged for students to meet with a member of the counselling department as soon as possible," Sdoutz's letter reads.

Dhinsa's body was found in the shared parking lot of Qwemstin Health Clinic and St. Joseph's Church on the Tk'emlups Reserve on Jan. 29.

Several police units are involved in the investigation with Southeast Division major crime unit taking the lead.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn confirmed on Jan. 31 that police are investigating his death as a homicide, and later confirmed his identity on Feb. 3.

Although an autopsy was completed, Dhinsa's cause of death was not revealed by police.
