KAMLOOPS - Kamloops may be in for some technological beautification after city council voted in favour of bringing on another graphic designer.

Kamloops hired its first graphic designer a year ago. After reviewing the community feedback as well as the volume and complexity of the work completed, the city's communications director Wendy Heshka highlighted the need for a new full-time graphic designer.

Heshka stated that the cost of hiring a second full-time employee would be significantly less than continuing to outsource projects to freelancers.

According to Heshka, using a freelance graphic designer to complete projects throughout the year would cost the city between $150,000 and $200,000, whereas hiring another full-time employee would cost the city $72,000 annually.

The future employee will receive a salary of $60,000 with benefits. According to the job search site Nuevoo, the average salary for graphic designers is $45,825, with an average of $76,500 for more experienced designers.

Heshka is confident that the new position will allow for more content creation and higher quality work, with a lower price tag for the city.
