A Kamloops grandmother had her wedding ring and a necklace stolen by what appears to be a con artist.

The senior citizen was parked at a plaza in the 700 block of Fortune Drive in Kamloops around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, when she was approached by a woman who tried to give her some jewelry, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Nov. 9.

RCMP said the suspect entered the woman's car and acted like she wanted to exchange jewellery, then took off once she had the victim's wedding ring and necklace.

“The items stolen are of great value to the victim and the family and it’s a shame that they are now without them,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

RCMP describe the suspect as a female in her 30s or 40s, possibly South Asian or Latin, with black hair. She was wearing a long dress and brown leather-style jacket.

“We are releasing images of the items in case someone has come across them, perhaps listed for sale on social media, or at a physical location, and can help lead police to their recovery,” Cpl. Evelyn said.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-38897.
