A Kamloops graduate isn't going to have to worry so much about how to pay for school next year.

Grade 12 student Brielle Polischuk from Sa-hali Secondary School was awarded a Beedie Luminaries scholarship worth $40,000.

She is one of 157 B.C. students this year to receive $6.2 million in scholarships from philanthropist Ryan Beedie.

The Beedie Luminaries scholarship program supports students who demonstrate strong academic potential, are involved in their communities and have faced life challenges with determination and optimism, according to a news release.

The scholarships are worth $40,000 for students pursuing a 4-year undergraduate degree and $15,000 for students pursuing a 2-year college diploma/certificate or trade-school foundation program.
