A Kamloops fisherman hauled in a little more than fish last night when he found explosives while hauling an anchor.
Police were called around 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26 to where the man found the explosives in a plastic bag near the Lafarge bridge, according to a release from Kamloops RCMP. The angler put them back where he found them, just offshore of the boat launch on the north end of the bridge.
The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit and Dive Team will be in the area later today to locate and safely dispose of the explosives.
"Currently the boat launch and surrounding area is closed to the public," Staff Sgt. Sascha Fesenko said in the release. "Police ask for the public’s cooperation in staying away from both the boat launch and waterway in that area."
