KAMLOOPS - An early morning fire has completely destroyed a building at the old Kamloops drive-in.
Kamloops Fire Rescue crews were called to the decommissioned drive-in off the Halston Connector Road at approximately 1:14 a.m. today, Nov. 17.
"Crews responded to reports of flames at the building and when they arrived the flames were through the roof," Platoon Capt. Ken Hartt says.
The building, which is approximately 70 feet by 40 feet, was fully engulfed. Firefighters weren't able to enter the building so they surrounded the blaze with trucks to battle the flames.
"They put the fire out and the building is completely destroyed," Hartt says.
The large fire could be seen from the south side of the city in the early morning hours, with orange flames visible from Lower Sahali, according to one witness.
No other part of the drive-in was damaged.
The drive-in has been out of commission for years, but the projection screen still stands in the large grass field.
Fire investigators are on scene today, Nov. 17, trying to determine a cause of the fire.
