When 13-year-old Cassie McNutt prompted her parents to hold a homeless winter clothing drive there’s no way she could have known how successful it would be.

But, with the help of Kamloops residents who gave freely, it's been a triumph of giving.

“She and (we) are overwhelmed by the generosity you have shown. More than we could have ever hoped for,” her dad, Don McNutt said in a Facebook post about the dozens of bags donated.

The clothing drive will be on for another day, so be sure to drop by enjoy the lights and make a donation.

The clothing drive was the brainchild of Cassie, who wanted to use the family's light display at 5215 Dallas drive to raise awareness and help those less fortunate this Christmas.

“We have talked to the local shelters and one of the things they really need is new socks and underwear (and any cold-weather clothing including blankets),” Don said in an earlier post.

“Santa will be delivering these items to the homeless on Dec. 23 and 24  along with a hot meal,” he said.

“Any items we can't find a home for will be donated to the Mustard Seed and Out in the Cold Shelter.”

They are also accepting any non-perishable food items for the food bank. The collection bin will be cleared daily so items donated don't freeze.
