A Kamloops woman is seeking help from the public after reporting her elderly parents have had some big ticket items stolen from their property on the city's North Shore.

Irma Leong and her parents, the former owners of the Lotus Inn Restaurant, have lived in Kamloops for decades. Leong said her parents became victims of crime on Sept. 23 when their cargo trailer containing food truck equipment went missing from where it was parked on Vernon Avenue.

Leong said her parents use the trailer and equipment at local events to raise money for the Chinese Cultural Association.

“They have spent their whole lives trying to preserve the Chinese Canadian history in Kamloops and educate others about Chinese culture,” Leong said. “The organization is small and they rely heavily on fundraising to keep the association afloat.”

Leong said the trailer contained an electric table, two holding ovens, portable tables and chairs, three tents and two moving carts among other things.

She said her parents want the trailer's contents returned.

“I wish my parents told me sooner about it but my dad is very quiet and hates asking for help. It was my mom who told me about it," she said.

The incident has been reported to the RCMP and while the odds of finding the trailer after this much time has passed are low, she is asking the public to keep an eye out for it.

Her father, Joe Leong, said the trailer was on his friend’s property for one night, waiting to be moved into a secured space, and that night it was towed away.

“The trailer is a white, single axle cargo trailer that is about twelve feet by six feet wide,” he said. “It is used to help support the Chinese Cultural Association and it is essential we get it back. The trailer is partially covered by insurance but not the contents.”
