Kamloops dog walker assaulted, another threatened

Police have a man in custody after a dog walker was assaulted and another was threatened in Kamloops.

Kamloops RCMP said officers were called to Centennial Park in Westsyde around 6:50 p.m., Sept. 13.

"Officers quickly arrived on scene, located and arrested a suspect nearby," detachment spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release.

Benoit Jean Charron, 40, is charged with assault by choking, two counts of assault and attempted theft.

"He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for today," Cpl. Evelyn said.

Police said they would not provide further details because it's now before the courts.
