A lucky Kamloops couple discovered a $1 million dollar lottery win while casually scrolling through their email inbox today, May 24, B.C. Lottery Corporation says.

Greg Gauthier and his wife won the huge prize from the May 7, 2022 Lotto 6/49 draw, according to a news release.

“We are quite excited,” Gauthier said in the release. “Our first reaction was ‘that is too many zeros.’”

The Kamloops resident purchased his ticket from PlayNow.com and says he also enjoys playing the lottery with a group at work.

He and his wife first shared the news with their children.

“They are quite excited for us,” he said.

The millionaire plans to celebrate his major windfall over a nice family dinner and is looking forward to taking a trip to the east coast and maybe somewhere hot, the lottery corporation said.

“I’m not going to argue if we get away during the winter months,” he added. “My biggest feeling was that I can now look into the future and put my kids and grandson in a great place. I’m able to make life easier for my family and I really enjoy helping out.”

In 2021, B.C. lottery players redeemed more than $99 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.

Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 7:30 p.m. (PST). Each draw includes a Guaranteed Prize Draw of $1 million.
