Kamloops care home reports death in COVID-19 outbreak

A person has died in a COVID-19 outbreak at a long-term care home in Kamloops.

The Thompson Nicola region has two outbreaks in long-term care facilities at the Pine Grove Seniors Community in Kamloops and Gillis House in Merritt.

As of Friday, Jan. 28, Interior Health reported one person died in the outbreak at Pine Grove. The outbreak has impacted nine staff and 13 residents.

Prevention measures are in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Interior Heath said in an email statement.

The outbreak was first reported Jan. 19.

The vaccination rate for people over the age of 12 in B.C. is recorded at 92.7% with at least one dose and at 90% for those with at least two doses. Those with three doses reached 43.9%, Jan. 28.
