Kamloops Blazers goaltender Dylan Garand has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the New York Rangers.

Garand was selected by the Rangers in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft.

Garand, 19, has been playing for the Blazers for five seasons, and this year posted a 15-4-0 record, 1.85 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage, a Blazers media release said.

Garand’s save percentage is the best in the Western Hockey League (min. 2 games), his 15 wins are tied for the most in the WHL, and his 1.85 goals-against average is second best in the WHL,
the release said.

Garand took to Twitter Friday morning to express his excitement after signing his first NHL contract and thanked his teammates, coaches, family and friends who made the opportunity possible.

The Victoria prodigy has complied a 70-26-6 record, 2.32 goals-against average, and a .918 save percentage in his 109 games with Kamloops. He has also registered 10 shutouts in five seasons.

The goaltender earned an invite to his second World Junior Championship for Team Canada later this week, after playing in one game for Canada last year.

During the 2020-21 season, Garand also played with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League for two games.
