Kamloops Blazers Breast Cancer Night / Run for the Cure

Kamloops, BC – The Kamloops Blazers, in conjunction with Kamloops Safeway and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, are proud to host their annual “Safeway Breast Cancer Night” game on Saturday, October 5th when the Blazers host the Prince George Cougars.

This season, as well as hosting the annual Safeway Breast Cancer Night game, Blazers players will participate in the CIBC Run for the Cure which takes place on Sunday, October 6th at Riverside Park.

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is the largest single-day, volunteer-led fundraising event for breast cancer in Canada.  Since its inception here in Kamloops in 1997, the event has raised over $2.5 million in Kamloops alone.  In 2012, Kamloops raised $209,745 and 1,043 participants joined the walk/run and with our participation and promotion of this year’s Run For The Cure, we hope to help surpass those numbers.

A team fundraising page has been set up to collect donations leading up to and during the Blazers Breast Cancer Night game.  Fans can make a donation online or in person to the Blazers team, their favourite player, or the Blazers Run For The Cure team captain Digger.  All donations go directly to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

In an effort to help raise funds during the game, a Puck Toss will be held during the second intermission.  Fans can purchase pucks on the concourse throughout the game to throw out during the second intermission.  The Grand Prize for the Puck Toss will be a Blazers Breast Cancer Jersey signed by the entire 2013-2014 Blazers team.  Secondary prizes will also be awarded.  All funds raised through the Puck Toss will go towards the Blazers Run for the Cure team fundraising.

Kamloops Safeway stores have played an integral part in the Blazers annual Breast Cancer Night games.  Their support and participation has helped us raise tens of thousands of dollars for breast cancer research.  Fans can purchase tickets for the Safeway Breast Cancer Night game on Saturday, October 5th from either of the Kamloops Safeway locations as well as tickets for all other Blazers home games throughout the regular season and playoffs.

Blazers players will be at both Kamloops Safeway locations prior to our Safeway Breast Cancer Night and the Run for the Cure.  Players will be on hand to collect donations for their Run for the Cure team as well as visit with fans and help out around the store!  Players will be at the North Shore Safeway location from 5:30-7:00pm on Tuesday, October 1st and the Sahali Safeway location from 5:30-7:00pm on Wednesday, October 2nd.
