KAMLOOPS - The Kamloops Blazers have announced Matt Bardsley has been hired as the team’s new general manager.

Bardsley will replace former GM Stu MacGregor who announced his retirement last month.

Bardsley is an experienced hockey scout and has previously worked with the Portland Winterhawks as the director of hockey operations and assistant general manager for the past eight years, according to a Blazers media release issued today, June 1.

The Winterhawks have appeared in four Western Hockey League finals and won the championship title in 2013 during Bardsley’s time with the team.

"I’d like to thank Tom Gaglardi and the rest of the ownership group for giving me this opportunity,” Bardsley says in the media release. “My wife and I are excited to move to Kamloops and raise our young family. The Kamloops Blazers franchise has a rich and storied history. I am excited to get started and build a foundation of success.”

The Kamloops hockey club’s co-owner and governor Tom Gaglardi say he has watch Bardsley draft and recruit "some tremendous players during his tenure in Portland.”

“Matt brings a strong resume to Kamloops and we are elated to have him lead our hockey operations," Gaglardi says.

Bardsley will be at this weekend’s annual Spring Prospects Camp. The sessions will be at the Brock Arena and open for the public to watch on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3.
